The WEIMA M8.28 twin-shaft shredder is designed for the industrial pre-shredding of large and heterogeneous material streams. As a high-performance pre-shredder, it ensures a consistent feed of material, reduces the load on downstream equipment and enhances the stability of the overall process.
The high-torque twin-shaft technology with counter-rotating rotors actively draws in the material and shreds it in a controlled manner, even with challenging materials. The result is high throughput, trouble-free operation and consistently reliable shredding.
A key advantage is the maintenance-friendly design: the fully removable cutting table enables quick servicing work to be carried out outside the machine. This significantly reduces downtime, increases plant availability and sustainably lowers operating costs.
Below you will find an overview of the technical specifications, applications and available options for the WEIMA M8.28 heavy-duty twin-shaft pre-shredder.
With the EES (Easy Exchange System), the cutting table – including the cutting shafts – can be lifted out of the machine as a complete unit and replaced. This significantly reduces changeover times and enables rapid adaptation to different material requirements.
The WEIMA M-series twin-shaft shredders are equipped with high-performance hydraulic drives from leading manufacturers. They offer impressive responsiveness whilst requiring low power input. Starting, stopping and reversing are possible reliably, even under full load. Speed (15–40 rpm) and torque can be adjusted continuously via a frequency converter.
The side inspection flap opens hydraulically, providing easy access to the cutting table and cutting shafts. This allows routine maintenance work to be carried out efficiently, whilst foreign matter can be removed quickly and safely by hand.
The 280 kW PowerPack can be positioned flexibly – directly on the machine, at a distance, or in a separate plant room. The enclosed housing reliably protects the drive components from moisture, dirt and corrosion. Sound-absorbing panels are available as an option, allowing noise emissions to be specifically reduced.
Optimally networked: WEIMA shredders are equipped with all standard interfaces, such as PROFINET and PROFIBUS, and can therefore be integrated quickly and seamlessly into existing production and processing plants. The low loading sill allows for direct feeding via grapple, forklift or wheel loader and is equally suitable for feeding via conveyor belts. The raised base frame provides sufficient space for all standard discharge conveyors and ensures the efficient, clean removal of large quantities of material.
The central lubrication system ensures continuous and on-demand lubrication of all relevant moving components, including the cutting shaft bearings. This eliminates the need for manual relubrication using a hand pump, thereby reducing maintenance requirements and improving operational reliability.
Depending on the desired throughput and degree of comminution, the cutting shafts can be fitted with between eight and twelve cutting discs. The resulting particle size is determined by both the number and the width of the cutting discs.
To compensate for temperature variations in the hydraulic oil, the WEIMA M-series shredders are equipped with an air-cooled oil cooling system. This reliably enables long, uninterrupted operating times. The generously sized oil tank features an integrated microfilter system that ensures a high level of oil purity, thereby guaranteeing an exceptionally long service life for the hydraulic components.
The cutting shafts are specially designed for use with abrasive materials and foreign substances such as sand, metals or other contaminants. The cutting discs, made from highly wear-resistant Hardox® 500 steel, offer excellent protection against abrasion and wear, ensuring a long service life for the shredding components.
The large-format touchscreen display provides a clear overview of all relevant operating data and settings at a glance. Parameters such as the speed of the cutting shafts can be adjusted flexibly and intuitively. The Siemens PLC control system also enables centralised connection and control of the shredder and all peripheral equipment – including conveyor belts, separation technology and secondary shredders – via PROFINET and PROFIBUS. This allows material flows to be controlled in an energy-efficient manner and maintenance processes to be optimised in a targeted way.
The WEIMA M-Series can be controlled not only via the touchscreen display but also conveniently using a remote control. Functions such as start and stop, opening and closing the maintenance flap, reversing the cutting shafts and the emergency stop are directly accessible. Control via a smartphone app is also available as an option, allowing operating and process data such as throughput, operating hours, maintenance intervals and fill levels to be accessed at any time.
The standard version of the feed hopper has a capacity of five cubic metres and can be extended to up to eight cubic metres for particularly bulky parts or large quantities of material. This allows for convenient and efficient feeding using a gripper without any problems.
