The shredding process with ram, rotor, screen and material discharge

Material feed

What use is a razor-sharp rotor and many kW of drive power if the material to be shredded doesn’t reach it in the first place? The S and W series shredders have a pusher for this purpose. Whether horizontal or curved – a perfectly adjusted pusher significantly increases throughput. In horizontal shredders (H series), on the other hand, a vibrating chute and a feed roller feed the material and ensure that the material reaches the rotor efficiently.

Horizontal pusher | ram

The slider moves horizontally forwards and backwards using hydraulic pressure. The movements can be controlled automatically, intermittently or manually. If required, this is load-dependent. It is guided precisely by brass guide rails or rollers so that it does not jam. A shock valve at the rear end of the slider also absorbs shocks, making the system even more robust.

Swing ram

The material feed using swing arm technology makes the shredder particularly compact, simplifies maintenance and allows a more aggressive material feed. The swing arm can optionally be fitted with an attachment, which further improves the feed.

Vibrating chute and feed roller

With horizontal shredders, the material is fed via a vibrating chute, which is available in various lengths. This chute transports long strips, profiles or pipes to the infeed of the shredder. A feed roller is located in front of the rotor, which picks up the material and feeds it horizontally to the rotor. There it is shredded between cutting knives and counter knives. The feed is controlled depending on the load to prevent the machine from being overloaded. The horizontal design facilitates the handling of long parts and ensures that the material cannot be ejected in an uncontrolled manner, which increases safety.

Improved material feed with optional accessories

Segmented floor for improved pusher behavior

The hydraulic pusher can be equipped with a segmented bottom. This is particularly important for very thin materials such as veneer, paper or plastic film. This segment base ensures that no material gets jammed under, to the side or above the slider. Without this additional equipment, thin material can cause the hydraulic pusher to jam. This blockage can only be removed with a great deal of time and effort, resulting in a temporary standstill of the machine.

Brass guides and roller-guided pusher

If the material is particularly abrasive, brass strips can be used instead of the standard plastic guide strips. It also makes sense to use a roller-guided slider to minimize wear on the guides and reduce maintenance times.

Serrated plate and serrated edge

The hydraulic pusher of the WEIMA shredders can be equipped with a serrated bar in the wood shredding area or a serrated plate in the plastic shredding area. The material is held in place in front of the rotor so that the material to be shredded cannot escape from the rotor.
The serrated plate slightly increases throughput and prevents larger pieces from being ejected from the machine. While the serrated plate extends over the entire front of the hydraulic pusher, the serrated bar only covers the upper part of the hydraulic pusher.

Pusher | ram modes

In order to control the material feed optimally, the pusher can be set using various modes.

The pusher moves depending on the utilization of the rotor. This mode automatically adjusts the feed rate to ensure continuous shredding and avoid overloading.

he pusher is controlled manually to push the material into the rotor in a controlled and targeted manner. This function is used for special materials or individual requirements.

The pusher moves back and forth in short, targeted movements. This mode is particularly suitable for voluminous or bulky materials that need to be shredded evenly.

The pusher moves forward continuously, regardless of the rotor load. This mode is used for evenly fed material where a continuous material flow is required.

The slider retracts if the rotor is blocked or overloaded. This mode protects the machine from damage caused by overloading or foreign objects in the material.

Here, the pusher is moved more slowly in order to optimally process materials that need to be shredded precisely and gently.
